Established in 1567 this ancient boarding residence forms part of the large and successful Ashby School in the heart of England. This coeducational school has been awarded two specialisms in technology and modern foreign languages with international school status.
Results for A level are consistently high with a 98% pass rate. An impressive 50% of passes were at grades A and B. GCSE results are also very impressive and well above the national average.
School House, the boarding residence, is home to a family of boys in an attractive Georgian house, set in its own grounds and has recently been awarded £2.4 million to build an additional extension to the residence.
Ofsted has, again, classified School House as 'outstanding', stating: 'The atmosphere in the house is extremely positive and reflects the care and support provided... Boys present as really caring about each other and their house, which reflects how well they are cared for... Boarders benefit from an excellent level of individual support. This is a particular strength in School House.'
Sporting and recreational facilities surround the house with sports fields, a large sports hall and floodlit, all-weather courts. There is an excellent heated indoor swimming pool and sporting opportunities include water polo. A full programme of sport is available and boarders can also take advantage of professional coaching in football, golf, tai chi and karate etc.
The school provides a wide variety of recreational clubs including Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme, orienteering and residential/cultural exchange programmes. Opportunities are available to boarders throughout the year including visits to places of historical and cultural interest, theme parks, the theatre, shopping trips, bowling, the cinema and ice skating etc.
