Edgbaston High School for Girls (EHS) is an ambitious independent school, providing a broad, modern and inspiring education. The school aims to give girls the confidence, independence and motivation to achieve their ambitions, wherever they may lie.

Set within 14 acres of grounds in Edgbaston's leafy Calthorpe Estate, EHS offers a first class education to girls aged 2 1/2 - 18 years across three departments - Prep School which includes a Nursery, Kindergarten and Reception in Pre-Prep, Senior School and the Sixth Form - on one site.

The school is known for its unique provision of academic rigour in a truly caring and supportive environment, an approach that has proved highly effective as evidenced by the many successes of its school leavers.

Founded in 1876, the school has a rich heritage, the tradition of which is successfully combined with an exciting and innovative education fit for the 21st century.

Girls enjoy unrivalled academic opportunities at EHS. All pupils from Year 3 to Sixth Form have their own iPad, with digital learning fully integrated into daily school life. Opportunity and broadening horizons are a key aspect of EHS life, for example Senior School pupils study French, Spanish, German and Latin in Year 7 and can then choose from 28 A Level subjects in Year 12 and Year 13. Sport, art, music and drama all feature heavily.

The academic curriculum is complemented by an expansive co-curricular programme in which pupils are encouraged to pursue personal interests or develop new skills through an array of lunchtime and after-school clubs as diverse as Anime, Classics, Dance Club, Football and Mandarin.

All pupils benefit from the school's shared facilities which include the multi-functional 600 seat Octagon performance space which lies at the heart of the site and is suitable for large-scale productions, assemblies and meetings, and a large gym, a fitness suite for all ability levels, an all-weather floodlit astro surface for hockey, netball and tennis, an athletics track and a cricket square. Children from Kindergarten upwards enjoy weekly sessions in the onsite indoor heated swimming pool. Our outdoor facilities also include a school allotment.

The friendly and supportive EHS community prides itself on offering truly outstanding pastoral care. With small class sizes and a large team of committed and experienced staff, pupils soon settle into the warm and inclusive environment.

Results at GCSE and A Level are outstanding and Year 13 leavers go on to pursue studies in an impressively diverse range of interests at some of the UK's top universities. Pupils across all departments demonstrate outstanding success in academic challenges, quizzes and competitions at regional and national level.

At 11+ pupils are prepared for a wide range of senior schools, and standards are consistently high, with Year 6 girls transferring to the school's own Senior department, local grammar schools or other local independents. A number of academic and music scholarships and bursaries are available each year.

Edgbaston High School was delighted to achieve a rating of 'Double Excellent' - the highest possible accolade - in its 2023 inspection by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI).
