Ipswich High School is a vibrant day and boarding school for boys and girls aged 3–18, set in a beautiful 87-acre campus in Woolverstone on the banks of the River Orwell. With approximately 490 pupils, everyone at Ipswich High School is well known as an individual. We have small classes of hard-working pupils and inspirational teachers who help to instil a love of learning; the results of which are exceptional academic outcomes year-on-year.

We are just as ambitious outside of the classroom and pride ourselves on the huge breadth of our co-curricular programme, as well as offering a home-away-from-home boarding environment in our stunning refurbished boarding houses, The Dairy House and The Barns, which have recently been awarded 'Best Boarding House Extension or Refurbishment' by the Boarding Schools' Association.

It is our incredibly welcoming and friendly community that sets us apart. We inspire our pupils to achieve more than they previously thought possible. We do this by providing them with the widest possible range of experiences both inside and outside the classroom, to broaden their minds and create new opportunities for every pupil to thrive. We understand that the world today requires young people to be so much more than simply good at passing exams. As a school, our vision is to prepare our pupils to thrive in the 21st Century by using their talents to improve the lives of others and through doing so, make their own unique mark on the world.

The school was founded in 1878 and since 1992 has been situated in the Grade I listed Palladian mansion, Woolverstone Hall. The school occupies 87 acres of beautiful parkland in a rural location just four miles outside the county town of Ipswich. The spacious site has been adapted well to the needs of a forward-looking school with superb facilities, including a 300-seat theatre, ICT suites, 25m indoor heated swimming pool, Sixth Form Centre, cookery rooms and AstroTurf pitch. The school capitalises on its outstanding natural surroundings: the woodland provides an outdoor learning area for the Prep School and the pond and parkland are often used for scientific research.

Pupils follow a broad and balanced curriculum from which they enjoy great academic success. In 2022, 54% of GCSE grades awarded were Levels 9-7. In total, over 47% of GCSE students achieved at least one Level 9 grade and more than 36% of pupils achieved grades of 9–8. At A Level, teachers and students alike were thrilled with the 100% A Level pass rate. Across the cohort, 35% of A Level grades were marked at A*-A and 64% achieved A*-B.

We offer bespoke private tours, which are tailored to your child(ren)'s needs and will allow you to experience our unrivalled school community first-hand.
