Loughborough Grammar School is a top-performing, independent day and boarding school for boys aged 10-18. It is part of the Loughborough Schools Foundation which is a charity committed to providing an education to cherish through a Nursery and four high achieving schools. Uniquely the schools share a beautiful campus and exceptional resources in many fields including music, STEM and sport.

Loughborough Grammar School is one of the oldest independent schools in the country, able to trace its origins back to 1495.

A passion for life and learning

Loughborough Grammar School is a school where academic achievement is at the centre of everything. Dedicated staff and outstanding resources enable Loughborough Grammar School boys both to fulfil their potential in examinations and to embark on intellectual adventures beyond the classroom.

However, the boys encounter far more than is required for academic success. Staff at the Grammar School understand that they will only succeed if they feel happy and contented. Considerable focus is therefore placed on the development of a strong moral compass where kindness towards others and a commitment to fairness and equality are valued as key personal attributes.

So that each boy can enjoy his time at Loughborough Grammar School, there is an attentive system of pastoral care that ensures that each boy is supported by pastoral staff who fully know him, his interests and his worries, so that they can both monitor his progress and guide him towards areas in which he will feel challenged and fulfilled.

Each boy is an individual and staff want him to feel totally at ease within himself, whatever his unique interests or pursuits. The Grammar School strongly believes that pupils benefit from a well-rounded education, which is why it is so important that every boy at Loughborough Grammar School has the opportunity to discover passions that he will retain beyond his school days and into adult life.

In the early years, boys are encouraged to try as many experiences as possible, gradually finding their unique niche as they progress through the school. These activities beyond the classroom play a major part in helping boys to develop into resilient young men, who are confident yet sensitive and aware of their responsibilities to others.

The Grammar School provides a myriad of opportunities through an extensive co-curricular programme which offers sport, music and drama as well as over 100 clubs and societies. Boys are expected to take advantage of the activities and clubs that are on offer and to show pride in representing the school outside its walls.

A Loughborough Grammar School education is therefore a busy one, where each boy thrives through engaging in a broad range of activities that will complement his academic achievement, and help him to develop into a well-rounded and happy young man.

Boarding at the Grammar School

The success of the boarding community has been an enriching part of Loughborough Grammar School for much of its long history. With an active community of some 75 boarders, the boarding is like a concentration of the very best that the school offers, condensed into two wonderfully welcoming Houses within the campus.

Just like the day pupils, Boarders are supported, individually known, cared for and cared about and encouraged to make the most of all the opportunities such a high achieving school provides.
