AN 'EXCELLENT' SCHOOL WHERE OPPORTUNITIES MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE

Merton Court Prep, Sidcup, combines academic excellence with a healthy holistic approach

Founded in 1899, this ISI Excellent co-educational, proprietorial school teaches 320 pupils from the age of three to those taking their 11+.

"We encourage pupils to achieve their best and learn the key skills that will help them through life, in an exciting environment. It takes hard graft and effort, but we shouldn't be afraid of that and, whilst schools can easily be turned into 'exam factories', we have always pushed for a holistic approach that allows a child to discover what they are really good at", says Dominic Price, the school's Headmaster and Proprietor.

Merton Court's academic success sees pupils gain places at local well-regarded Grammar and Independent Schools. Smooth transition to Senior school is helped by the fact that, like at Secondary school, Merton Court pupils move classroom, from an early age, for different subjects, which are taught by teachers with specialist knowledge, instead of staying put with just one teacher. From Early Years Foundation Stage upwards, the school is determined to inspire a real passion for learning and a 'go for it' attitude.

With a unique family ethos, and the highest quality of pastoral care, what really sets Merton Court apart is the opportunity to enjoy grass and Astro pitches, forest school, a sports hall, a swimming pool (they were 2018 Primary English Schools' Swimming Association Champions) and dedicated science, music, art, dance and IT facilities. All of these things - to give pupils the best possible start to their life story.

The school's most recent Independent Schools Inspectorate report, from November 2022, judged Merton Court as 'Excellent' (equivalent to Ofsted 'Outstanding') in all areas of academic and pastoral development.
