Pocklington Prep School - a strong and caring community

Children flourish in the supportive environment of Pocklington Prep School, where an excellent all-round education inspires a lifelong enthusiasm for learning.

Our strong and caring community, for day and boarding pupils aged 3-11, includes a vibrant co-curricular life and sense of involvement in the rounded education we are renowned for. It is underpinned by a deep-rooted belief in and commitment to pastoral care, which allows staff to support children as they grow.

Innovative teaching

Specialist and innovative teachers focus on each individual and stretch and challenge them to ensure they are happy, confident learners who achieve their full potential. Pupils' natural talents and curiosity are encouraged while developing the core skills of reading, writing and numeracy. Our aim is to embed the skill of independent thought so that pupils can draw on a solid foundation of knowledge to form and apply new ideas.

Continually evolving

Pocklington Prep School lies 12 miles east of York, on the edge of Pocklington, and shares a 65-acre campus with Pocklington School, which caters for 11 to 18-year-olds. The school was founded in 1514 and has continually evolved since then to combine the best teaching methods with the latest technologies.

Extensive facilities

The school's superb classroom facilities are complemented by a 300-seat theatre, an indoor sports hall and a swimming pool, plus 21 acres of grass sports pitches and two full-sized synthetic pitches. Numerous co-curricular activities take place every day and each child is encouraged to develop their own interests.

The school has good public transport links and its own minibus pick-up service. Full, flexible and casual boarding options are available. Junior boarders live in modern single-sex houses and enjoy a dedicated programme of weekend and after-school activities, in addition to the normal school calendar.

Inspired for Life

Our aim is that when our pupils move on to their senior schools, they will be confident independent thinkers who are proud of their achievements and 'Inspired for Life'.
