A Breath of Fresh Air Every Day

Based on the Isle of Wight just off the south coast of England (one of the warmest locations in the UK), we are a Round Square and IB World School, an island school with a global outlook. The importance of community sits at the heart of our school and we expect pupils to be true to our values of ambition, responsibility, courage and respect. Our pupils work hard and we challenge them to make the most of their talents and the opportunities in front of them.

The school is located in the Victorian town of Ryde with its high-speed connections to mainland rail and air services. Cowes, the home of international sailing, is 30 minutes away.

Boarding is in two beautifully appointed boarding houses in the school grounds in Ryde. Our Junior Boarding house, Millfield, for boys and girls in Years 6 to 10 and our Senior Boarding house, Centenary, for Year 11 and Sixth Form.

We pride ourselves on aiming high for our pupils and offering many diverse activities alongside our academic teaching to build resilient, confident pupils ready to embrace the wider world. Main sports, such as netball, cricket, rugby and hockey are played against schools on and off island with football, athletics, croquet and riding also on offer. Sailing is built into the curriculum with beginner to elite sailors thriving at Ryde. The school has an excellent record of academic achievement throughout all age groups and was the first independent school in the UK to offer the IB Career-related Programme alongside the IB Diploma Programme and our A Level Plus Programme, through which pupils study for A Levels but also take advantage of the IB courses on offer and add them as enrichment options. We also offer a one year GCSE and Pre-Sixth Form course providing excellent preparation for entry into the Sixth Form.

Pupils leave to go on to study at Oxbridge, medical schools, other Russell Group Universities and Art, Music and Drama colleges. Pupils succeed academically and are well-mannered, characterful, happy and independent; a result of Ryde School's dynamic yet welcoming environment.

Boarding pupils live in two boarding houses within the 17 acres of school grounds: Millfield, a sensitively renovated Victorian villa for the younger boarders or the new purpose-built Centenary House, with stunning sea views, designed to prepare older students for university and adult life. Both houses have multiple common rooms, study areas and single and twin bedrooms, mostly en-suite. Weekends are spent learning to paddle board, go-karting or simply enjoying long walks on the beaches with a boarding house dog. Barbecues and football are regular pursuits as well as cooking and now bee keeping with our Ryde bee hives and cooking in our new cookery school.

Day pupils range from local Island families to those travelling to the school daily from Portsmouth and the surrounding areas on the mainland via the 10 minute hovercraft service. Boarding options include full, weekly and flexi with a diverse boarding community including around 13 different nationalities. Ryde is only 90 minutes from Heathrow and parents embrace the weekly and flexi boarding option to enable them to live on the island or nearby and commute more widely to work, on the mainland and further afield. Breakfast and supper clubs and school buses across the island augment that flexibility for our pupils.

Our Open Mornings are a great time to view the school as is our annual Summer School during four weeks of July and August. We also offer individual tours throughout the year and will work with you to find a suitable time if you are visiting the Island for a short period.
