Founded in 1998 The Moat School is London's first independent secondary day school for children with dyslexia (SpLD). It offers an intensive and structured learning programme teaching the National Curriculum, enabling success in public examinations, in a safe and supportive learning environment.

Mainstream schools can disadvantage the SpLD child as they are unable to understand what is being taught and without specialist help they fall rapidly behind their year group and underachieve. Children at The Moat School receive a totally inclusive education, they understand their difficulties, but thrive academically, emotionally and socially in spite of them.

The school identifies and fosters the extraordinary talents and creativity that these children often possess, by providing courses in non-traditional subjects such as performing arts, food technology, computer technology, art and design and design technology. Pupils have individual timetables that address their needs and classes are small and coeducational for children of average to above average ability. Subjects are taught by highly qualified specialist teaching staff, with learning support assistants, and there is a wide range of sporting and extracurricular activities.

The Moat School has recently been re-inspected by CReSTeD and their report is on the School's website.

The Moat School has been described as the 'Gold Standard' in SpLD education and the Good Schools Guide says:

'Something special. Not for children wanting to be cosseted and comforted, but a hard-working haven for bright, determined dyslexics and dyspraxics who know what they want from life and will achieve when given a chance.'

The Moat is opening a prep department taking pupils in year 5 and year 6 this September. For further details on visiting please call or email the School office.

The Moat School is managed by the Constable Educational Trust, a Registered Charity No. 1068445 and is committed to the education of children disadvantaged by SpLD.

This is the aim of the Trust: "to advance the education of children but particularly those disadvantaged by SpLD".
