Mina Cook, a pupil at Llandovery College, has been selected to represent Wales in the 2018 European Karate Federation’s Junior, Cadet and U21s Karate Championship in Sochi, Russia, next month.

A member of Carmarthenshire Karate, Mina trains up to three times a week at the Carmarthen Club and also with the Welsh squad in Cardiff. She gained her Black Belt last summer and her triumph at the Welsh Championships paved the way for inclusion in the Welsh squad.

Having already represented her country in the World Championships in Tenerife last October, Mina, at only 15 years of age, will now compete in the U21 category in the European Championships. Mina said: “I am so proud to have been chosen again to represent Wales and really excited at the prospect of travelling to Russia and competing in the Championships.”
