Our School

Bury Catholic Preparatory School is a unique co-educational preparatory school in Bury, near Manchester, in the North West of England. We offer a truly enriching all-round education from Nursery to Year 6.

Founded in 1943, Bury Catholic Preparatory School has always been a thriving family school, fully committed to outstanding pastoral care allowing each child to reach their full potential both in the classroom and beyond. Well-respected by leading senior schools, Bury Catholic Prep. is known to turn out bright, well-mannered, motivated boys and girls who have the self-confidence to go out and make their mark in the world.

Rated 'Excellent' by the Independent Schools Inspectorate for both academic achievement and personal development, BCPS children achieve remarkable things. A safe, happy, stimulating environment with unique opportunities starting with our youngest members.

Our Nursery is where the magic begins within small class sizes that allow each child to be seen, recognised and understood as individuals. Our committed, dedicated and highly experienced early years specialist staff use their expertise to help the children begin their exciting learning journey in the very best way, creating a holistic curriculum with individualised learning to suit the needs of every pupil. By igniting their creative sparks, making learning fun and engaging them in specialist activities to improve their skills, our Nursery and Reception children grow in confidence and ability every single day.

We believe that happy children love to learn and we are therefore fully committed to providing outstanding pastoral care allowing each child to develop their ability and potential. Our broad curriculum aims to promote learning, personal growth and development with a balance between academics, sport, music and the arts.

Alongside the curriculum, an extensive extra-curricular programme including STEM (Robotics, Coding, Science) Clubs, Sports (training, team fixtures, national competitions) Music (Choir, solo and group instruments) Languages (Rosetta Stone; Mandarin, French, Arabic) Drama and Eco-Council, amongst many other offerings, give our pupils the opportunity to explore their interests and develop their talents.

Personal development and pastoral care have always been at the heart of who we are so we keep class sizes small; between 10-15, so each child has the opportunity to shine for the unique individual that they are. We appreciate today's pressures on young people, and have the experience and resources to support each individual's well-being. Young people are capable of incredible accomplishments and our approach encourages them to build their confidence and self-belief.

Children spend fulfilling years here, developing a love of learning and close friendships. We help them to become confident, independent, caring young people. As they move up the school we want to make sure they are thoroughly prepared for the next stage of their education and the top flight schools to which they win places.

Academically, our track record is simply outstanding. As our children grow, they receive layer upon layer of exceptional teaching, and as they travel towards the top of the school, they receive specialist exam preparation, delivered by experts in the field. Pupils are prepared, comprehensively, to sit examinations for all the very top Independent Schools around the North West.

The beauty of an education at BCPS is the choice, and the variety of opportunities , it affords our families when their sons and daughters reach Year 6. Bespoke teaching results in exceptional preparation for specific schools, the ones which school and families consider are the best fits for each individual pupil. Small class sizes, maintained throughout the school, allow this approach to be overwhelmingly effective. And our results speak for themselves.

100% of our pupils succeed in gaining entry to their school of choice . This is a milestone of which we are incredibly proud but our track record demonstrates that we go much further. Each year our Year 6 graduates attain multiple prestigious scholarships including; all-round scholarships, governors awards, highest 11+ exam scorer scholarships, maths Scholarships, admittance into the Dyamond society, Sports/Drama/Art scholarships to name a few.
