Dauntsey's is a leading co-educational boarding and day school for 11-18 year olds. The school sits in an estate of one hundred and fifty acres of idyllic countryside in Wiltshire and offers some 800 pupils challenge and inspiration both inside and outside the classroom.

The Dauntsey's Experience

Academic excellence is at the heart of all that we do. However, education is much more than grades on a piece of paper. It’s about developing the skills and characteristics, such as resilience, flexibility and a willingness to have a go, which we all need to have a successful, happy life. That's where our adventure, enrichment and extra-curricular activities have a crucial role to play. From drama, dance, music, sport and a huge range of clubs and societies, to our lecture series, adventure programmes and volunteering initiatives - there are opportunities to suit everyone.

The Dauntsey's Community

Community and collaboration underpin many aspects of Dauntsey's; it is a happy place with a strong family atmosphere, where friendship matters and where courteous informality between staff and pupils is highly valued.

Our pupils are expected to give of their best and to have a spirit of adventure. We aim to push them out of their comfort zone, both inside and outside the classroom, and we want them to arrive at the end of their time in the School saying: 'I did not think that I could do that, but I did.'

Our pupils, both boarding and day, come from many different schools and so arrive at Dauntsey's eager to make new friends. Both communities are fully integrated and boarding houses rapidly become home-from-home and fellow boarders become extended family. All pupils attend School six days a week with Saturday school compulsory for day and boarders alike, with a full academic programme for all year groups and sports matches every Saturday afternoon. A range of activities on Saturday evening and Sunday encourage friendship and a sense of community.

Houses in the Upper School (for pupils aged 14-18 years) are single sex. Lower School pupils (aged 11-14 years) board at the co-educational Manor, a fabulous Victorian mansion in extensive grounds, a short walk away from the main School campus.

"Coming back to the Manor at the end of the day feels like coming home. There is so much to do and so many people I like - I've certainly never felt lonely!" - Richard, Second Form Boarder at The Manor

Entry Requirements

At all stages, admission to Dauntsey's is via examination and interview. Pupils can join Dauntsey's aged 11, 13 or 16. We recommend that potential applicants and their families attend one of our open mornings, which offer an opportunity to see the School on a normal working day, to meet current pupils and talk to both teaching and admissions staff. We hold two open mornings a year in May and October. Individual appointments can be organised by contacting the Admissions Office at admissions@dauntseys.org.
