EF Academy International Boarding Schools prepares students for a global future with a superior secondary school education in the US or UK. At EF Academy, we believe in every student's ability to succeed. We empower them to do so through our renowned curricula, as well as quality one-on-one relationships with teachers and mentors alike. With a student body made up of 75 different nationalities, multilingualism and intercultural exchange are built into every course, which helps distinguish our students' academic credentials to both university admissions officers and future employers.
Our private high school is situated in a modern-day castle on a hill overlooking the sea and Torquay, a quiet town on England's sunny south coast. The art studio has large windows that face the sea - perfect for landscape study - and the state-of-the-art science labs are ideal for conducting experiments and research in class and with study groups. The community, made up of students, school staff and locals, has often been described as a family and our students feel very much at home in this encouraging, international learning environment.
Students live in on-campus residences with their classmates and house parents. House parents look after the students and ensure that they are safe and comfortable when they are not in class.
At EF Academy Torbay, students follow the IGCSE program in their first two years of secondary school and can choose from the IB Diploma or A-Level program in their last two years. They benefit from our small class sizes and the interactive learning styles our experienced teachers employ in their lessons.
Personal tutors provide one-on-one individualized support and guidance. Each student is assigned a personal tutor whose role is to monitor the student’s academic progress and general welfare. Students are encouraged to nurture their talents and develop new skills and confidence. The guidance counselors support students in everything from managing homework and selecting the right courses, to helping them overcome homesickness or culture shock.
EF Academy Torbay students have been accepted to universities such as Durham, Warwick and Exeter. They have also gone on to study Business at the University of Bath, ranked number one for Business in the UK, and Accounting and Finance at the University of Leeds, also ranked number one for that subject in the UK. Our dedicated university advisor works together with our students to help them explore program and career options, research universities in the UK, US and their home country, and prepare for entrance exams and interviews.
Students at EF Academy Torbay have access to a wide range of co-curricular activities. From subject-specific academic groups and competitions to sports and arts, there is an option for every student. On weekends, students often enjoy exploring nearby Babbacombe Beach, sailing in the harbor or rock climbing with a guide. The school's enrichment coordinator also arranges teacher-led excursions for students on the weekends so they have the opportunity to experience the culture of the community and the country in which they are studying.
