King’s College School is an outstanding, independent day school for boys aged 7-18 and girls aged 16-18 located in one of the most attractive and peaceful parts of London, on the south side of Wimbledon Common.

King’s has been rated the top boys’ and co-educational independent school in London since 2017 by The Sunday Times Parent Power. Alastair McCall, editor of Parent Power, stated: “KCS is the embodiment of everything you could want in a school”. The Good Schools Guide Review (2020) reports: “Intellectually exhilarating yet principled, this is selective education at its very best… a real golden ticket”.

The curriculum is designed to offer a broad range of options and the quality of teaching is excellent. Lessons are fun, exhilarating, and purposeful, creating the best possible foundation for the future. We prepare sixth formers for both the IB and A Levels. In the last six years, almost 300 leavers have won places to study at Oxford or Cambridge.

The culture of King’s is one of kindness, openness and support, and the wellbeing of pupils is paramount. The pastoral system, based primarily on the house system, is a key strength, supporting pupils' personal and social development and enabling them to excel in and out of the classroom.

Our approach at all levels encourages pupils to look beyond academic excellence, as the vibrant success of our drama, music and games departments indicates. We are fully committed to the CCF, the DofE Award Scheme, community service and our partnerships with 27 local maintained schools. To enable so much to occur, Friday afternoons for year 9 and above are made over entirely to these, and other, activities.

King’s prides itself on its combination of innovation and tradition. In 2010, the sixth form became co-educational and this has been an outstanding success; we admit around 50 girls each year. Since September 2016, King’s has admitted boys aged 11 directly into the senior school which has increased access for a wider range of parental backgrounds. From 2021, boys will transfer from the junior school at the age of 11.

In 2019, King’s completed its ambitious masterplan for the renewal of the school site. Highlights included a new state-of-the-art music school and a new sports centre with a six-lane swimming pool.

King’s has a long history of enabling bright young people from all backgrounds to access the school. We offer means-tested bursaries at 11+, 13+ and 16+ of up to 100% of tuition fees, as well as additional funding for extras such as school trips and uniform.
