King's School Rochester is a remarkable school with a rich and diverse heritage, where pupils have been educated for over 1,400 years under the watchful gaze of Rochester Cathedral and Rochester Castle. Founded in 604AD, King's is the second oldest school in the world and the world's oldest Cathedral Choir School.
While a sense of place is bound to have an impact on the development of the children learning here, it is the skills, experiences and opportunities provided to them, both inside and outside the classroom, that will enable them to thrive in an uncertain and fast-changing world.
At King's, we believe in preparing children for the 21st century through educating the whole child. Our priority though, is ensuring that happy children perform to their best and the school is an exceptionally happy and friendly place where moral values, self-discipline, emotional intelligence and a Christion spirit underpin our family community.
Our academic results ore excellent at all levels but we believe that building a love of learning and developing independent thinking skills are just as important as achieving the best grades. We keep our class sizes small so that teachers know their pupils as individuals and can help each of them shine. We ore a school where all are cared for and where links between home and school ore a real strength.
We offer and encourage pupils to take part in a huge range of co-curricular opportunities to ignite and nurture their interests, providing experiences which will develop confidence in them for life. Sport, Music, Drama, Outdoor Pursuits, CCF and a range of clubs and societies are integral to the school's commitment to provide a broad educational experience.
Music is a huge strength and we are privileged to use Rochester Cathedral as our chapel. We hold seasonal concerts throughout the year in the Nave and the Cathedral.
Choristers are educated in our Preparatory School. Music Scholars go on to leading international conservatoires.
Under the refurbished Vines Church is our Drama studio, equipped with digital sound and lighting. We are a proud Royal Shakespeare Company Associate School and our pupils have staged productions across Kent. King's has a strong reputation for exceptional drama performances and productions of "Titanic the Musical" and "Fiddler on the Roof" have been comparable to the standard of productions in the West End.
Our coaches and many of our pupils play at county, national and international level. The King's School Rochester Sports Centre provides pupils with extensive facilities to train, in addition to playing fields, a heated indoor swimming pool and boat house situated on the bank of the River Medway, while the Paddock is regarded as one of the finest cricket fields in the county.
The boarding community at King's reflects the personal approach of the school. Boarding starts from age 11 and we have 55 beds across our two boarding houses, St Margaret's House for girls and School House for boys. The small boarding community ensures o real boutique and family-feel to both boarding houses which are comprised of both British and international pupils.
We offer co-education from 3 to 18 and our structure of Pre-Prep, Prep and Senior Schools enables us to offer a tailor-made experience for each age group while giving access to the excellent facilities of the whole school.
King's School Rochester is in every sense a school for life.
