Mount St Mary’s College is an independent Catholic day and boarding school for boys and girls, founded in the Jesuit tradition. Located on a beautiful campus in the heart of the Derbyshire countryside, the school offers high quality teaching facilities, outstanding sporting resources alongside broad and engaging extra-curricular opportunities. Students aged 11 to 18 are taught by highly qualified and dedicated teachers who ensure that care of the individual and the pursuit of excellence are at the heart of everyday life. Each student is taught that in order to achieve their very best, they must always strive harder, higher and with the service of others at the heart of what they do. Excellent examination results each year support this approach.

We proudly embrace the guiding principles of the Catholic faith and the Jesuit approach to teaching and learning. These core values have stood the test of time: they are simple, effective and universal.

Mount St Mary’s College in 2021 is a vibrant and growing school. Although much has changed in its remarkable history the Mount preserves and cherishes its Jesuit identity. It is true to its founding principles of developing ‘Men and Women for Others’ whilst ensuring they are prepared for the modern world they will soon take their place in. Whilst the majority of the students at the school are from the local area, travelling daily from Sheffield, Chesterfield, Rotherham, Doncaster, Mansfield and beyond, many using the fleet of school minibuses, students also come from many countries around the world. Students come to live alongside the British students from many European countries as well as many from further afield including Mexico, Chile, Fiji, the Middle East, Hong Kong, China and Nigeria to name a few. This creates a diverse, cosmopolitan environment, reflective of the wider world, where students learn to live and work alongside one another, preparing for all that comes next.

Our academic results speak for themselves. In 2021, our Sixth Form was given an ALPS rating of 1.25, placing us among the very best sixth forms in the country. At GCSE, we consistently enjoy results in excess of 15 per cent above the national average.

We have a proud sporting heritage and we regularly celebrate outstanding sporting performance across a huge variety of disciplines. While we enjoy tremendous success on the rugby and hockey pitches, we offer a wealth of different sporting opportunities including athletics, cricket, swimming and fencing. We boast a superb athletics track and pride ourselves on coaching children of all ages and abilities to a standard where they can represent the College.

Our excellence in Music is renowned. We enjoy a packed musical calendar, including performances in the community. More than 75 per cent of students at our Preparatory School play at least one instrument, and more than 40 per cent of students play at the Mount. Concerts are performed each term and whilst the showcase Academy Concert tops the bill at the end of May, many other opportunities to perform are offered. Friends of the school and members of the wider community are always welcome to attend.
