NorthWood Senior is a co-educational secondary school in South West London for pupils aged 11-16 which will open in September 2020. It is part of the Northwood Schools’ family which includes our co-educational pre-prep school, Broomwood Hall Lower School and our two prep schools, Broomwood Hall Upper School (girls) and Northcote Lodge (boys).
NorthWood Senior offers an alternative to education that’s purely about endless exam preparation; it will provide an education that’s not only academically excellent, but which equips pupils with the skills and experiences to face their future with confidence. We will offer a wide range of subjects, sports and activities allowing pupils to take a varied range of GCSEs and IGCSEs across the arts, languages, STEM subjects, humanities, music, drama and sport. There will be an equally strong focus on life skills as preparation for the changing demands of the 21st-century workplace and the challenges of modern life and the strong focus on pastoral care that the group is known for at the preparatory level will continue.
We hope that at NorthWood Senior, pupils will know the joy of an education that is rounded, stimulating and healthy - both physically and mentally; an education where good grades are still important - along with healthy competition in sport, drama, music and the arts, but where the focus will be on developing the self; building reflective, community-minded young adults who have a passion for learning and the skillset to tackle the exciting future that awaits them.
Our main entry is at 11+ with an additional, smaller entry at 13+. Entry is by interview with the Head, on-line testing and a group activity. Exit will be post GCSE to the setting that is right for each individual child; for some it will be a sixth form college, others may want to join the sixth form of another school. We will always work with parents and pupils to find the next step that is right for them.
