How do you recognise a Portsmouth High School girl? You will note it in her success. But you will see it in her spirit.

Nothing daunts a Portsmouth High School girl; whether she is trekking in the mountains as part of her Duke of Edinburgh Award or giving a presentation, she will find the inner resources she needs to face any challenge.

Portsmouth High School aims to liberate the potential of girls, empowering them to take up opportunities and prove they have what it takes to be the best version of themselves. Girls leave us as confident, well-informed young women, ready to embark on the next stage of their lives with resilience for the exciting journey ahead.

Our school…

With almost 140 years’ experience in delivering outstanding education for girls, it is hardly surprising Portsmouth High School GDST has an enviable reputation for success achieving exceptional examination results alongside an impressive co-curricular programme.

Portsmouth High School is an independent school for girls from Pre-School through to Prep School, Senior School and Sixth Form. Set in the heart of Southsea, the school is part of the Girls’ Day School Trust family of schools, the leading provider of education for girls in the country. Teachers have an unrivalled expertise in teaching girls and enabling pupils to discover their talents and reach their full potential.

Prep and Pre-School

The school is situated on two sites just a few minutes’ walk apart. The Prep and Pre-School are located in spacious grounds for a city school and enjoy an on-site all-weather Astroturf sports pitch, tennis courts, play equipment and an outdoor classroom for forest school lessons. A unique explorers’ approach to learning uses thinking skills which apply across the curriculum and beyond into sport, music and drama. Free wraparound care, and an affordable fee structure, make the school an ideal start for preparation for Senior School.

Senior School and Sixth Form

At Portsmouth High Senior School unrivalled opportunities, and a continued focus on well-being, enable girls to achieve a firm foundation for academic excellence and personal success. Skilled tutors develop each girl’s understanding of her own strengths and pupils are encouraged to take on responsibilities and leadership opportunities. Confidence grows as girls realise what they can achieve by facing risks and taking on new challenges with a 'can-do' attitude that takes them forward in leaps and bounds.

Our highly successful Sixth Form is a leading independent Sixth Form in Hampshire achieving outstanding A Level results year after year. It is a thriving and vibrant community with a strong sense of its own identity within the school. Our Sixth Formers leave us for highly respected university courses and go on to excel in a range of careers.

Travelling to school each day

Portsmouth High School offers transport provision for pupils using the school’s own minibus fleet and all drivers are school staff. This offers a more personal service with more direct routes and shorter journey times benefitting both pupils and busy parents.
