Posted on 9th Sep 2021 in School News, History

Ipswich School will be opening its doors for a fascinating tour of the school’s long history this Saturday, 11th September, as part of Heritage Open Morning.

Tours will take place at 9am, 10am and 11am. There is no need to book - visitors can simply arrive at the reception of the main school building on Henley Road.

Headmaster Nicholas Weaver will give an insight into Ipswich School’s history, from before 1399 - the earliest written record of the school - to the present day, including:

  • Links to Cardinal Wolsey, and the only school mentioned in the works of Shakespeare
  • The Grade II listed library designed by Birkin Haward, with stained glass windows by John Piper
  • The Old Town Library featuring books dating back to 1400s, which Ipswich School holds on behalf of the town

We look forward to welcoming you!
