Two Cranleigh pupils have signed professional contracts with Harlequins RFC. Oscar Beard and Will Trenholm were 1st XV captain and vice-captain respectively. Both were members of the Daily Mail trophy-winning side and both have represented England School Boys as well as representing Harlequins in their A League shield matches this season.

They join a growing list of pupils who have signed professional contracts after their A Levels with Harry Barlow, Hugh Tizard (both Harlequins) and Hayden Hyde (Ulster) signing professional terms over the last two years.

Mr Andrew Houston, Director of Rugby, said "It is a very special day for the School, the boys and their families. These two boys are superb players but most importantly are great role models. They have worked so hard over the last four years or so and you couldn’t wish to meet two more deserving and humble people".

Oscar who can play anywhere across the backline, but specifically in the centres, has played every game for Harlequins U18 EPDG this year and represented the 1st XV whilst still U16. Will, who plays number 8, represented England U18’s when still a year young and both boys have continued to represent England in their recent summer tour to South Africa. During their final three years at Cranleigh they have won the Daily Mail Trophy (2019/20), Surrey Sevens (2018), Hampton Sevens (2019) and were Rosslyn Park 7’s finalists (2018).

Mr Houston continued to say that "These boys have joined a growing list of Old Cranleighan’s who are playing professional rugby at the moment. From Will Collier (England and Harlequins) to Sam Arnold (Munster and Ireland) to Henry Taylor (Northampton Saints), each year the boys set such a great example for the juniors to follow. I am so pleased for them and I know the whole school are incredibly excited to see how they progress over the next few years".
