Felsted School Musician Sana Abu-Jabir, aged 15 from Hertfordshire has been selected for the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain (NYO) out of over 800 applicants.

Sana, who is a talented percussionist, had two rounds of auditions leading up to her selection, playing marimba, snare drum and timpani. This involved performing a couple of solo pieces for the NYO audition panel, travelling to the Royal Birmingham Music Conservatoire for an ensemble audition with other potential candidates and a test of her sight reading and improvisation skills followed by an interview.

Sana comments; “After a long three week wait, I was so pleased to be offered a place in the percussion section of the NYO and I look forward to performing in many concerts with the orchestra over the next year.”

Alongside the NYO, Sana currently plays as a junior artist with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and has recently been offered a percussion position in the Docklands Sinfonia E14 Orchestra.

Sana is a music scholar at Felsted and has been able to take full advantage of the school’s ongoing partnership with Junior Guildhall in London, providing a unique pathway and training opportunities for talented musicians.
