This year the girls at Maltman's Green School in Gerrards Cross will be raising money and donating equipment to Edirisa UK - a charity working in South West Uganda.

Each year Maltman's Green chooses a different charity to be their main annual charity. The charity that they choose often has an education angle and is supported alongside various other charities such as Children in Need, the Royal British Legion, Water Aid, Marie Curie, Comic Relief and The London & Slough Run. The charity that they have chosen for 2019/2020 is Edirisa UK, founded by local philanthropist, Sheila Windridge. Edirisa UK works in South West Uganda to deliver life-changing health, education and social projects.

Primarily, Maltman's Green will be supporting Edirisa UK's education projects and have lots of ideas in place from donating toys, games and scholastic materials, to offering guidance on teacher training and child-centred Early Years education, as well as straight forward fundraising. Mrs Windridge recently gave a series of assemblies to girls right across the school from age 2 to 11, telling them all about the charity’s amazing work out in Uganda where they have built nursery schools, renovated and support primary schools, support special needs education and so much more. The girls were surprised to see the way the children around Lake Bunyonyi travel to school via canoe and to hear that they don’t have electricity or running water. They are now really excited about being able to raise funds for Edirisa UK over the coming year. The School has just held it's Christmas Faye, where they began their fundraising for Edirisa UK through toy sales, choir performances and more.
