Stroud School celebrates World Book Day

Posted on 4th Mar 2021 in School News, Literature

Our exciting day celebrating books started with a lovely story read by our Head Mistress Mrs Smith, who was resplendent in a pig onesie! Children across the school had a chance to meet a real life author, Alexandra Stewart, and hear about what it’s like to write books – the children left inspired to do some of their own writing and let their imaginations run wild!

A Masked Reader challenge, where masked staff from across the school recorded themselves reading excerpts from their favourite children’s books, was great fun for children Zooming in from home or in school as they tried to guess the reader behind the mask. A whole-school competition to design their own non-fiction book cover, with the chance of winning a signed copy of one of Alexandra Stewart’s books, allowed children to explore their drawing skills and appreciate the importance of illustrations in children’s books.

Staff across the school came in wearing pyjamas, ready for bedtime stories, and children embraced the choice of wearing their pjs or coming as book characters. A wonderful day was had by all, and the children enjoyed celebrating the chance to climb mountains, soar into space and dive into oceans from the comfort of their own homes and classrooms.
