Manor House School’s Senior public speaking team claim victory at the annual Youth Speaks debating competition.

Our Year 9 team of public speakers claimed a convincing victory against many other schools – including St John’s, Downsend and Box Hill School – at the annual Youth Speaks debating competition this week.

Chloe chaired the team’s 15-minute speech with confidence and humour, linking between the main speaker, Alicia, the judging panel’s questions and our proposer of the Vote of Thanks, Amelie, with ease.

The team spoke clearly and decisively and Alicia was named in the summary by the judges for her clarity, engaging content and her organised structure.

The topic, chosen and written by the girls, was ‘The Power of the Mind’ and in it Alicia discussed the fascinating research of the placebo effect and how our brains can be trained to help us be more efficient and productive. It was a captivating speech and an engaging delivery.

The girls are now preparing for the semi finals in the coming weeks.

Good luck to the team and well done! #CreativeandCollaborative #AcademicExcellence
