Brentwood School’s growing cohort of orienteers were out in force at the Birchanger Woods event in Bishops Stortford on Sunday putting in a string of pleasing performances.

Under beautiful autumnal skies, the young navigators traversed a challenging course which unusually went through an urban area meaning the competitors had to plot a route through residential streets!

Emma Bowie-Britton romped home in first position on the Orange (2.7km) route in a time of 24.26 with Jessica Mills taking second spot in 32.03. Sarah Prior was fifth in 41.17 and Kate Bowie-Britton was 7th in 48.29.

Heather Trevelyan took the honours on the Yellow (1.7km) route in a time of 15.40 and Mayukha Rodrigo was third in 17.50. Other finishers included: Jacob Leslie, 5th in 19.06; Adnan Yaqub, 6th in 19.14; Janie Horton, 7th in 19.42; Samuel Lee, 8th in 25.18; Salman Yaqub, 9th in 26.01, and Matthew Trevelyan, 10th in 26.03.

Joshua Elsworth (19.25) and Jemima Mamelock (21.21) also completed the Yellow route but unfortunately missed a control each. The orienteers’ next outing is at Langdon Hills, Basildon, on the 5th November.
