The John Downton Award for Young Artists is an annual exhibition which encourages and celebrates the creativity of Kent’s young artists. It is open to students aged 11 to 18 from schools and colleges across Kent. The exhibition commemorates the life and work of John Downton, the celebrated Kent artist, poet, and philosopher. It is the biggest art competition in Kent, and it is hosted by Kent County Council on behalf of the John Downton Trust.

Cobham Hall Art department entered three students – Grace (Year 11), Kat (former Year 11), and Yannes (Year 12) – for this prestigious competition, and we are delighted to announce that all three have been shortlisted. Grace and Kat have been shortlisted for the painting prize in the 11-16 category, and Yannes has been shortlisted for the mixed media prize, also in the 11-16 category.

This is a fantastic achievement, and we are very proud of them all. Their artwork will be on display at County Hall in Maidstone. All the winners from each age group and category will have their work exhibited at the Turner Gallery in Margate which is very exciting.
