Two talented Sixth Form students from leading independent school in Elstree, Habs Boys, are celebrating this week, having been awarded prestigious Arkwright Engineering Scholarships.

Matt Hodes and Daniel Samuel Bayvel-Zayats have been selected in recognition of their potential as future engineering leaders. The Arkwright Engineering Scholarships programme is the most esteemed scholarship scheme of its kind in the UK with over 6,000 scholarships awarded to date.

The scholars were rigorously assessed on their academic, practical and leadership abilities in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths), via an assessed application, teacher’s reference and an in-depth interview session led by a panel of top engineers, where they presented an engineering project they had conducted, before being quizzed on their future career aspirations.

Gus Lock, Headmaster at Habs Boys commented: “Arkwright Engineering Scholarships are very highly regarded by universities and industry. They are also one of the most prestigious accolades that talented sixth form students pursuing a career in engineering can achieve. We are incredibly proud of our students’ achievements, it is testament to their incredible hard work, passion and determination.”

The scholarships will support the engineering students through their Sixth Form studies and encourage them into top universities or higher apprenticeships. The scholarships consist of an annual financial award to each recipient and also to the school, as well as a range of enrichment activities, such as mentoring and industry visits, designed to enhance their experience of engineering and technical design in a real-world context.
