Scarlett May (16), a Lower Sixth pupil at King’s Rochester was delighted to have her song played on BBC Radio Kent on Saturday 5th December.

Scarlett, from Sevenoaks has been writing her own songs for over two years and cites Dolly Parton, Brandi Carlile and Fleetwood Mac as her top influences. She recorded her first EP over the October half break and was encouraged by her friends and family to submit some of her songs to the BBC Introducing Portal.

Her song ‘Empty Space’ was selected by host Abbie McCarthy as one of the best songs from Kent and played on her Saturday evening show which highlights new unsigned, undiscovered and under-the-radar music in Kent. Celebrating the first play, Abbie described the song as ‘early Taylor Swift’ and encouraged listeners to send in their thoughts.

Principal, Ben Charles, commented, “I've just been listening to Scarlett’s first play on Radio Kent. I'm so proud of her! What an amazing song and a great achievement. Next stop, top of the charts”.

Scarlett now plans to promote her EP via online streaming platforms and her song ‘Empty Space’ can be heard on the BBC Introducing in Kent website (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p08zc03t
