Berkhamsted was selected as one of the top Schools for cricket in the UK. We mention the importance of our Girl's cricket provision and the exciting future opportunities happening in Cricket at Berkhamsted School.

Berkhamsted School has been featured in The Cricketer’s Top 100 Schools Guide 2026, celebrating our impressive cricket provision and prowess.

Cricket is a highlight of our summer sporting season, with 77 teams playing last year across boys and girls between U9 to U18. Our close relationship with Berkhamsted Cricket Club allows us to host extensive specialist training and to benefit from their facilities and professional staff, alongside our own 12 squares, four astro-turf wickets and laser-levelled 1st XI pitch.

With an even split of boys’ and girls’ teams being fielded every weekend, Berkhamsted stands apart for its development of girl’s cricket. According to Wisden, Berkhamsted School has played the most fixtures of any Girls’ School XI for the past two years, and has racked up notable successes, including reaching the School Sport Magazine National T20 Finals Day in 2022. Berkhamsted girls Hannah M and Amelia D were named as the 2025 and 2024 top wicket takers in the country respectively, while Freya L-W and Edie S both play for the Hertfordshire 1st XI. On the boys' side, batter and spinner Edward H also gets special mention for having played for Northamptonshire 2nd XI, in the super fours regional competition and for Northamptonshire Academy.

This term, pupils in every year group between Year 5 and Year 13 are enjoying weekly pre-season sessions. Mark Costin, Head of Girls’ Cricket, tells us about some of the lead-up opportunities available for our cricketers: ‘30 pupils are having weekly one-to-one batting sessions, while others are participating in spin bowling masterclasses, weekly wicket keeping clubs and fast bowling training with a specialist coach.’

The rest of the 2026 season also looks bright for Team Berko. In summer, new outdoor astro-turf net facilities will be unveiled alongside new boundary ropes on our 1st XI pitches. There will also be an exciting cricket tour to Sri Lanka taking place during the Easter holidays. These excellent opportunities help to drive our high participation rates in sport, keeping our community happy, healthy and inspired.
