Rising tennis star Brandon Pugh, a pupil at Brentwood Preparatory School, is top of the UK 10 and Under Tennis Leaderboard after an impressive performance at the Scottish Junior Open in Glasgow. Brandon played extremely well to reach last weekend’s final in Glasgow, but narrowly missed out on the title, losing in a very close tie-break 5-10.

Brandon, who is in Year 4, has worked extremely hard to achieve this ranking, having achieved outstanding results this year at the Ipswich Sports Open and Bradfield National Tour which have contributed to this fantastic achievement.

Brandon's hard work has been recognised by the LTA who have offered him a place on the LTA National Pathway which will involve him training at a development centre from September. This will complement his existing programme, allowing him to continue working with his coaching team and retain a healthy balance of hard work and fun!

Brandon continues to take each successful tournament and result in his stride and is very modest about this outstanding achievement. He can't believe how far he has come, as the competition is very tough, but he is so happy to start a new tennis chapter after the summer holidays.

Mr Simpson-Crick, Teacher of PE at Brentwood Preparatory School, said: "Brandon can feel incredibly proud of this exceptional achievement which is fully deserved. He has worked so hard to improve his level of play and continually practices to keep improving every time he steps on court. Brandon has a fantastic attitude and always competes with great desire and passion whilst retaining respect for his classmates and opponents. This is another step in the right direction for Brandon who is a fantastic talent with exciting times ahead of him."
