The new orienteering season kicked off yesterday with Brentwood School fielding a 20-strong team for the inaugural event at Weald Park.

Third Year, Kate Bowie-Britton, had an excellent run achieving first girl place on the 2.5 km Orange course with a time of 34.49. Fellow Third Year, Sarah Prior, on her first run on the 2.5km Orange course, was the 3rd girl home in a time of 37.57.

On an unusually challenging 2.3km Yellow course, 13-year-old Freya Killilea had an excellent run, achieving the first girl spot. Second Year Janie Horton also achieved an excellent time, but unfortunately forgot to punch the xfinal control so was eliminated!

On the introductory White course, 10 First Year pupils and one Second Year, all having their first orienteering outing, navigated successfully around the 1.5 km course. An excellent time of just over 16 minutes was achieved by Jacob Leslie and Adnan Yaqub, gaining them 3rd place, with the others not far behind.

Lower Sixth student Catriona Kadirkamanathan tackled a challenging 3.8 km Light Green course but found all controls successfully and in fact was the only girl to complete the course in 80.25.

The team was missing Emma Bowie-Britton, who was away in Surrey representing East Anglia in the Junior Inter-Regional Orienteering Championships.
