Brentwood School First Year pupil Maddy Austin ‘bowled the maidens over’ at the Essex Cricket Awards winning the title of the Under 11s’ Best Bowler.

Eleven-year-old Maddy, a medium to fast pace bowler, received her certificate at the Essex Women’s Awards’ presentation dinner held at the County Ground.

Maddy has been playing cricket since she was four years old when her older brother, Old Brentwood Toby Austin, first started making her bowl at him.

As well as achieving the bowling award, Maddy has just been selected to play next season for Essex U13s and is one of only eight players handpicked for the Emerging Players Programme.

She took 3 wickets in her maiden game in May for Essex vs Middlesex and her defining moment was taking a hat-trick of wickets against Buckinghamshire in July.

She remains a member of Bentley CC, which she joined at the tender age of six, and is also a member of the girls’ U13 squad at Hutton CC. Maddy was also the only girl in the Brentwood Prep A Cricket side for two seasons and was presented with the Cricketer of the Year award by Headmaster Jason Whiskerd at the end of last term.
