Cranleigh School Sixth Formers join England U18 Hockey team

Two Sixth Form pupils from Cranleigh School, Ben Gaze and Pippi Spawforth, have been selected to represent England at U18 level hockey.

The initial trials took place in November last year when 785 players were assessed for the four squads – U16 and U18 Boys and Girls – with 60 players selected for each of the training squads.

Each of these squads then had a further six training and assessment days at which Ben and Pippi were joined by Siena K. and Eliza W. There were also weekly challenges during lockdown and numerous zoom meetings.

The challenges caused by Covid-19 have made this year's selection process very difficult for these Junior age groups. Well done to all four of them for their commitment to the programme and we wish Pippi and Ben the best of luck for the rest of the summer. They start with a three-day camp over the half term break.
