Dauntsey’s School stages Lower School dance show

More than 200 pupils took to the stage last week for Dauntsey’s 2018 Lower School Dance Show. The programme included a huge variety of dance styles, showcasing the talents and versatility of the pupils. The audience enjoyed contemporary, ballet, street dance and jazz, to name but a few.

This year’s theme was Planet Earth and some dances took inspiration from different countries, exploring caves, under the sea and prey versus predator. Particularly spectacular performances were given by the Mini Jazz club with their beautiful performance Metamorphosis, and the return of the School’s all-boy dance group, Girls Not Invited (GNI) with a high-energy, risk-taking performance. The Show closed with a third-form pupil's beautiful solo entitled Growth, followed by the entire First and Second Forms taking to the stage for the final dance. The Show theme provided inspiration for some very moving and thought-provoking performances.

Emily Wilkins, Dauntsey’s Teacher of Dance, said:

‘Parents, teachers and pupils alike were amazed by the enthusiasm of all the dancers and the professionalism with which the Lower School took to the stage. There was a real buzz from the audience, who were particularly supportive, and it was fantastic to see so many pupils up on stage having so much fun!’

Dance at Dauntsey’s

There are many opportunities to enjoy dance at Dauntsey's and classes are open to all pupils: both boys and girls, experienced dancers and those who are new to this discipline. Dance clubs include street, musical theatre, jazz, ballet, cheerleading, contemporary and tap.

Dance is on the timetable, so everyone does it, whether they come to Dauntsey’s with a history of dance classes or are complete novices. It is taught as part of the Drama Curriculum to all First and Second Form pupils.
