Students at DLD College London were recently inspired during a visit from the former editor of renowned Empire magazine, Helen O’Hara.

In a talk hosted by the BTEC Media Production department at the Westminster Bridge-based college, Helen gave the lucky students an invaluable insight into the industry. She shared her wealth of knowledge, discussing her experiences and providing the students with much-welcomed advice on constructing feature articles.

Helen, who is currently working freelance, is one of the faces of the highly popular Empire podcasts, associated with the magazine dedicated to British film.

DLD College London Principal Irfan Latif commented: ‘It was delightful to welcome Helen into our college. She utilised her wealth of experience to deliver a highly engaging session, motivating our students further to pursue their creative dreams.

‘Our BTEC Media Production Course gives students who see themselves working in television, music, film, publishing or advertising that first step towards a career in the industry. We are continuously looking to provide opportunities, such as specialist talks and workshops, to deliver a wealth of practical and theoretical knowledge.’

Founded in 1931, DLD College London is one of the oldest and most prestigious colleges in the UK, and since its foundation has built a strong reputation amongst students, parents, schools and universities.

In September 2015, DLD College London relocated to brand new, purpose-built premises in the heart of London, on 199 Westminster Bridge Road, overlooking Westminster and the River Thames.

The college offers students the chance to study a wide range and flexible combination of A levels, GCSEs, International Foundation courses and BTEC courses.

As part of the Alpha Plus Group, DLD College aims to maintain a ‘gold standard’ of educational quality. Classes are small, enabling students and teachers to focus upon the most effective ways of learning.
