DLD College London students have visited local charity Ambition Aspire Achieve, to provide valuable support to young people living in the community.

Members of the Lower and Upper School at the Westminster Bridge-based college dedicated their time to volunteer at the inspirational charity, which provides care for those with severe disabilities and additional needs from impoverished backgrounds.

Throughout their charitable day, students assisted the children in a variety of ways including helping with arts and crafts, fixing their bicycles, making pancakes, coaching them to play cricket and supporting a boxing tutorial session.

Gareth Evans, Assistant Principal Lower School at DLD who coordinated the partnership, offered his expertise alongside his wife Marieta, by creating a promotional video to tell the story of the work that is done to support young people in the community. The duo was also supported by an A Level Media student, who helped to shoot interviews and capture clips of the different activities throughout the day. The final production is set to be presented to MPs at the Houses of Parliament later in the year, raising awareness of the work that the charity and its volunteers are doing.

Gareth Evans commented: “The students who attended were excellent ambassadors for the college and we were extremely proud of the way in which they all engaged. It will be a lifelong memory for them.

“At DLD College London we are committed to giving back to the community and are therefore passionate about providing our students with opportunities to support those around them by participating in charitable events.”

Ambition, Aspire, Achieve work with young people in East London with severe disabilities from impoverished backgrounds. They work in partnership with, and receive referrals from a variety of sources, such as schools, education welfare services, health visitors, family and child consultation services, community mental health teams, probation services, family support groups, disability support groups, community organisations and youth offending teams.
