Nursing staff at Frimley Park’s Maternity Unit have given the thumbs up to the protective visors produced by Gordon’s School’s Design Technology (DT) Teacher Tom Webb.

Mr Webb and his team of teachers of PE; Careers and psychology together with House Parents at the school in West End, Woking hand cut each of the clear shields and laser cut the headbands before assembling.

An appeal through social media for more materials has enabled the production line to carry on making hundreds every day. Many have a distinctive daffodil-yellow headband, leading one team of nurses to dub them their Easter visors.

Now they are protecting staff in supermarkets, GP and vet surgeries, and hospitals across the UK including Woking Community, Royal Surrey, Guildford and Woking’s Nuffield and Gordon’s own medical centre nurse Emma Light at Frimley Park.

Practice Development Midwife Nicky Galdeano from Frimley Park said: “We are using them in our COVID area in maternity, everyone is delighted with them”.

She added that Mr Webb was ‘clearly using his time pro-actively’.

Among those offering their services to making PPE are students and from their homes, they will be helping to make padding for the back of the visors to make them more comfortable.

Headmaster Andrew Moss said: “We are delighted to be helping protect NHS staff and Key Workers and will continue to support them wherever we can.”
