Hazlegrove children run from Lands End to John O'Groats during lockdown 3

A group of children, teachers and parents have run the distance of Lands End to John O'Groats during the third lockdown.

Sports teacher, Mrs Kay Evans put together the Strava group for Hazlegrove Prep School in order to provide the community with a target for which to aim whilst stuck at home during lockdown. Strava is an app specifically designed for runners and cyclists. Between them, the 40-strong group have run more than 600 miles, the equivalent of Land's End to John O'Groats.

Kay said, 'Even though the weather hasn’t been great, the Hazlegrove Family have shown great spirit and still been out and about dog walking, hiking and running. We are well into Scotland and are on the final climb passing over the Caledonian Canal which connects East and West coast of Scotland. It is 97km long and has 29 locks. We will get to John O'Groats this weekend'.

For a School which hold weekly park runs for its children, it is not surprising that Hazlegrove has repeatedly turned to the great outdoors for inspiration during the past year of lockdowns. During Lockdown 1, the School raised over £2,500 for NHS Charities Together and Serve On when they scaled the equivalent of Mount Everest ‘trekking’ and ‘climbing’ from Lukla Airport to the summit, by using stairs, steps, ladders and hills, whilst last term, 120 children raised over £5,000 for Pudsey by having their own version of the Three Peak Challenge. The most recent virtual journey through the UK is only the start for this particular Strava group. The only question which remains is, 'Where next?'.
