Ipswich School celebrates one of its strongest results years in two decades

Ipswich School students are celebrating an excellent set of A Level and BTEC results, with 84% of gradesawarded at A*–B or their BTEC equivalents, a figure bettered only once at the School in the past 20 years.

Well over 40 boys and girls secured three A grades or higher, reflecting the strength of achievement across both A Levels and the School’s BTEC in Sport and Exercise Science.

Head of Ipswich School, Nick Gregory, said: “There is a huge amount in this set of results of which to be exceptionally proud, right across the 120+ pupils in our Year 13 cohort. Especially eye-catching and praiseworthy is that no fewer than 53% of A Levels (and their equivalents in BTEC) were secured at A* or A grade level. An ISI Inspection visit during the year picked out that Ipswich School "teachers know the pupils well and develop positive relationships with them", that they "develop pupils' curiosity and encourage critical thinking", and that Ipswich School provides its pupils with "an ambitious education with pastoral care that nurtures pupils' physical and emotional well being". Moments like this make worthwhile for everyone here the day-in, day-out hard work, dedication and care that earned such comments in the first place.”

The results tell only part of the story of this year group. Alongside their studies, students have been pursuing interests and ambitions at a high level across music, sport and performance, while the choices they are making after Ipswich School are increasingly varied too.

Ben Cliff, Head of Sixth Form, added: “What is so special today for those of us in the Sixth Form Team at Ipswich School is knowing the individual stories behind some of the less obvious outcomes, and also truly appreciating the breadth of talent on show in this group (e.g., students who have also been excelling in elite music, sport and on stage, at national and international level). In terms of helping to find the right 'next steps' for each of our students, as well as places at top Universities (here and abroad), more leavers than ever before are heading off to degree apprenticeships.”

This year’s results continue a long record of strong academic performance at Ipswich School, while reflecting the breadth of opportunities and different pathways open to pupils beyond the classroom. The School has now been named Suffolk’s top independent school in The Sunday Times Schools Guide for ten consecutive years.
