Ipswich School Opens New Boarding House to Expand Provision

Ipswich School has announced the opening of a new on-site boarding house, marking a significant step in the school’s commitment to expanding its boarding provision.

This September, more than 40 new boarding pupils joined the school community, bringing the total number of boarders close to 100 in the 2025/26 academic year. The new facility has been thoughtfully designed to provide a warm, supportive, and modern home-from-home environment, reflecting the school’s ongoing dedication to offering an outstanding boarding experience.

The development coincides with the arrival of Sarah Barrett as Ipswich School’s new Head of Boarding. Mrs Barrett joins the school following 22 years at Felsted School, and has relocated to Ipswich with her family. She said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for the school, and for our boarding community. The new house will enable us to offer pupils an even richer boarding experience; one that nurtures personal growth, academic achievement, and lifelong friendships.”

Ipswich School now operates three boarding houses: Westwood Boys’ House, a Victorian mansion in wooded grounds; and Anglesea Heights Girls’ and Sixth Form Houses, which offer modern ensuite accommodation similar to a university hall of residence.

Boarders benefit from a supportive environment, modern facilities, and the chance to make the most of the school’s wide academic and co-curricular opportunities. With full and flexi boarding available, the school aims to provide flexibility for families both in the UK and overseas.
