It’s Mardi Gras at Northbourne Park!

There was a wonderful atmosphere at Northbourne Park School on Tuesday, February 28, as the children from the Nursery and Pre-Prep celebrated Mardi Gras. This annual tradition within the school echoes the great French carnivals, in Nice or in Dunkerque.

The children, all aged between three and seven years old, paraded up to and around the Prep School dressed in coloured tabards, wearing their hand-made masques and shaking their shakers. There was a joyous display of carnival spirit as they all danced to a medley of festival music.

At the end of the procession Year 8 pupils had pleasure in serving traditional pancakes to the masqueraders which were enjoyed by all. Everyone asked for their pancakes and toppings in French, c’était délicieux!

Madame Hutchinson, Head of Modern Languages said: "It really was lovely to see all the children get in the spirit of ‘Carnaval’ and of celebration. For an hour or so, the school echoed with samba music, shaker sounds and happy children’s voices."
