King's Ely scientists were on top form in this year’s Cambridge Chemistry Challenge for the Lower Sixth (C3L6) competition.

Students achieved three gold awards, three silver awards and five copper awards in the competition, which is organised and supported by the Department of Chemistry at the University of Cambridge, St Catharine’s College Cambridge and the Michael and Morven Heller Charitable Foundation.

King’s Ely’s gold award winners were Eleanor MacGillivray, Archie Newman and Minchan Kim. Silver awards were achieved by David Harris, Rhys Phillips and Oliver Johnson. Oscar Hills, Peter Lonsdale, Zhihan Yang, Rhianne Williams and Alexander Budenberg achieved copper awards.

A gold award represents the top 9% of entrants, a silver represents the top 26% of entrants and copper represents the top 51% of entrants. Thousands of Chemistry students from across the UK take part in the annual competition, which aims to stretch and challenge pupils in Year 12 or below who are interested in the subject, providing an excellent experience for anyone considering taking their studies in Chemistry further.
