Last week, Leehurst Swan Year 5 pupils had an overnight stay at Magdalen Farm, a 132-acre organic working farm on the banks of the River Axe where Dorset, Somerset and Devon meet. The children enjoyed a variety of activities which challenged them to work cooperatively within a team and also to help them better understand the countryside and the environment, including:

  • Hands on farming – feeding the animals and collecting eggs
  • Survival in the wild – den building
  • Orienteering – mapping, scavenging and team building challenges
  • Low ropes challenges
  • River dipping

They also enjoyed exploring the grounds, putting their creative skills to the test and singing around the camp fire, followed by some deliciously toasted marshmallows!
