Maida Vale School announce Steven Winter as founding Headmaster

Gardener Schools Group is pleased to announce the appointment of Steven Winter as founding Headmaster of Maida Vale School from January 2020.

Maida Vale School is the group’s new senior co-educational independent school in north west London and opens in September 2020.

Mr Winter is currently Deputy Head at Bethany School near Cranbrook in Kent, in the top 2% of Schools nationally for pupil progress at A level with a strong focus on pupil well-being and pastoral care. He is responsible for the day-to-day running of the school. Previously, he was Director of Leadership and Outreach at Felsted School during which time he was seconded to the Academies Enterprise Trust as Associate Head of Richmond Park Academy. 

In ten years at Felsted School, Mr Winter held a number of roles including Head of Religious Studies, Contingent Commander CCF and Assistant Housemaster. Prior to that he taught at Swan Valley Community School in Swanscombe as an Advanced Skills Teacher and Year Learning Leader. He is also a trained ISI Inspector for both Compliance and Educational Quality. 
 

Reflecting on his new role, Mr Winter said, “I am delighted be appointed as the Head of Maida Vale School. This is an exciting challenge - we want to meet the demand for our type of school in this part of London. We will establish a modern school with clear values promoting individuality, creativity and resilience. Our curriculum will be wide ranging and challenging both academically and in extracurricular activities. Our aim is to allow talent to bloom and to encourage self-motivation in all areas of study and exploration.”

Mr Winter is a leading educationalist with a strong vision for learning. He is also a keen sportsman, having coached rugby and hockey throughout his career, and enjoys competing in motorsport and outdoor pursuits. Before taking up his position full-time in January, he will be on site at Maida Vale this autumn for open events and to meet the local community.

Maida Vale School joins Kew House School, Ravenscourt Park Preparatory School and Kew Green Preparatory School as a part of the Gardener Schools Group.
