Millfield Golfer Dewi John has been selected to represent Wales in their upcoming U18 match against Ireland.

The international match will take place from 19-20 March, and will be hosted by Cardigan Golf Club in Wales.

Upper Sixth Dewi, who is Golf Captain at Millfield, has continued his run of selections for the Welsh team, having taken part in Home Internationals against England, Ireland and Scotland last year. He’s aiming to represent his country in Germany at the European Championships in July as well as in the Home Internationals this season.

The budding sportsman joined Millfield for its unique golf provision and facilities, which enable him to train and play high-level golf while studying for his A levels.

Dewi is a day student at Millfield and is studying A levels in business studies, geography and PE. He hopes to gain a scholarship to an American university with an established golf programme so he can continue his studies whilst developing his golf further.

Dewi said: “I am proud and excited to be selected as it will allow me to compete at an international level. The experiences I will gain will be invaluable and help me to continue my development. I am pleased that the hard work I have been putting into my winter training, both through the Wales Golf High Performance programme and here at Millfield, appears to be paying off. The facilities and opportunities at Millfield are unique, it allows me to build practice into my day. The programme is flexible and tailored around your A levels which helps you balance the demands of studying and performing. The golf coaches are very supportive which allows you to continue to develop as a player.”

Director of Golf, Karen Nicholls, said: “We are proud to see Dewi selected for this forthcoming International match. It is always good to see students rewarded for their work ethic, focus and determination to take their golf to the next level.”

Millfield Golf grants students access to unrivalled on-site facilities including two outdoor putting greens, a nine-hole pitch and putt course, a specialist short game area and a 350-yard driving range. The new indoor centre, The John Graveney Golf Centre, possesses the latest in golfing technology, including two teaching bays, six practice bays, and an 81 square metre Huxley putting green.
