Millfield student Sarah Bugeja has been selected into Switzerland Netball U17 long squad for the 2021-22 season.

Year 11 Sarah, who joined Millfield as a boarder in Year 9, has impressed her native side in a series of trials. The centre and wing attack player is currently preparing with the squad who are training for the European Netball Championships which are being held in Gibraltar, in March, next year. She is training once a month in Switzerland ahead of final selections for the tournament.

Fifteen-year-old Sarah follows in the footsteps of sister and Old Millfieldian Jemima Bugeja who left Millfield in 2020. Jemima was a netball scholar and captained Millfield’s first netball team for the 2019-20 season. She has recently been selected for the Swiss National Open Team.

Sarah says, “I had visited [Millfield] on many occasions to see my sister who had joined in Lower Sixth on a Netball scholarship. I could see the amazing facilities and opportunities that Millfield had to offer and in particular I was interested in the netball programme as it was really well established with amazing coaches and strength and conditioning sessions built into the programme. I am very proud to have been selected and to be playing for Switzerland, and I enjoy getting on court with the team.”

Sarah aspires to get her first international appearance whilst playing for Switzerland.

Director of Netball, Jenna Adamson, says, “This is a fantastic achievement and a wonderful opportunity for Sarah. She has worked incredibly hard over the last year and it is great to see her fulfil the goals that she has personally set. I look forward to following Sarah’s progress in the U17 Swiss squad over the coming season.”
