Two MPW staff were delighted to attend a private view at the Saatchi Gallery on Monday, October 2 featuring artwork by MPW graduate Ben Joscelyne.

During Ben’s A level studies, he entered a drawing in the annual Epic CIC Art Explosion schools competition and on the opening night of the awards we were delighted to discover that he had gained second prize in the event. His large scale drawing ‘I’m a student get me out of here!’ depicts a young man pressed up against what appears to be a giant fish eye lens. Not only did Ben receive a certificate and £100 of Cass Art vouchers, but as part of the prize, his art work won a place in the prestigious Saatchi Gallery.

Ben states: “During my time at MPW I was able to produce some of my most inspired and meaningful art pieces. I accredit this improvement almost entirely to MPW's brilliant art department, namely Gregoris Ioannou, the Head of Art and my teacher Mark Cheeseman. … it came as a great surprise to discover I had won second prize and I am incredibly grateful to MPW and Epic CIC for providing me with this opportunity.”

Ben’s success is MPW’s second opportunity to celebrate as the previous year’s competition was won by an MPW student, Brenda Guo for her outstanding triptych ‘Stages of Existence’. We are very proud of both students and in addition this competition continues to showcase the hard work of creative arts students and staff at MPW.
