Northbourne Park School teacher takes on London Marathon for WaterAid

Northbourne Park School teacher and community activist Liz Hayes is getting ready for her latest challenge in April – running the London Marathon...

Turning 40 this week, Liz has decided that this is the perfect year to take on this event. “I have always wanted to run the London Marathon, ever since being taken to watch it as a child growing up in London. This year, with both my children now at school, and reaching a milestone birthday, it seemed like the perfect opportunity,” says Liz.

Missing out in the ballot, Liz nevertheless decided to find a place through fundraising for a charity and WaterAid was the ideal choice.

“I am actively involved in projects to improve my local community here in Dover, but I think it is also really important to contribute to the wider global community. WaterAid provides clean water, safe toilets and hygiene education to people who need it, and who can argue with that? Their goal is to reach everyone, everywhere by 2030.”

Liz has received great support from pupils at Northbourne Park School where she teaches, with pupils getting sponsored to take part in a mini marathon and adding over £600 to her fundraising total.

They have also learnt about issues around access to clean water, as have pupils at their partner school St Pauls Kaaso in Uganda.

Liz needs to raise £2000 for WaterAid altogether, so anyone wishing to support can contribute on https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Liz-Hayes-Marathon
