Prep Schools - Highfield and Brookham, Elstree School and Hanford – and Senior Schools – Downe House, Marlborough College and Radley – are hosting their annual drinks reception ‘Educating Outside London’ on Wednesday 15th January 2020.

Taking place at Beaufort House, Chelsea, the drinks reception will be of interest to those with children under the age of 10, and considering an education in a country school environment.

A representative from each of the six schools will give a brief talk on the positive benefits of being educated outside of London. Topics include the importance of keeping schools mentally healthy, the arguments for and against co-education and single sex schools, the advantages of having outdoor space and time to play with, and whether boarding or day is right for your child.

Phillip Evitt, Headmaster at Highfield School said: “We all hear about the ‘pressure cooker’ education overwhelming young children in London’s private schools. Our drinks reception will let London parents hear about the opportunities outside the city, that we believe help to avoid the destruction of childhood.”

Rory Johnston, Hanford’s Head said: “At Hanford we believe that our children flourish because they are given the time and space to be children. While we maintain the highest academic standards, we also want our girls to learn to face life’s opportunities and challenges with confidence, courage, creativity and humour.”

Sid Inglis, Elstree School’s Head said: “We are extremely lucky to be situated in such a glorious country location with access to so much outdoor space. Keeping our schools mentally healthy is of paramount importance, and being outside as much as we are for lessons, sport, mindfulness and fun, helps our children and staff to maintain a happy balance between work and play.”

Besides listening to the experts on the night, parents will have the opportunity to ask them questions, all within an informal and relaxed venue in central London.
