The children, staff and Governors of St. Andrew’s were both honoured and delighted to receive a visit from His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent KG at the official opening of the school’s latest Development Project.

The visit began with introductions followed by a tour of the new Food Technology room, with the opportunity for His Royal Highness to speak with a number of the children to discover what this new facility means to them. The children delighted in sharing their cooking skills, showing The Duke some of their culinary efforts. The tour then continued with a visit to one of the many new classrooms where His Royal Highness observed an enthusiastic lesson before a short tour of the fabulous environment of the school’s new library. Passing cheering groups of children, HRH The Duke of Kent then proceeded to The Little Field Theatre – a really stunning new building, complete with retractable seating, flexible rehearsal space and state-of-the-art lighting and sound.

Following an inspiring speech from the Headmaster, Mr Adrian Perks, HRH The Duke of Kent then unveiled a plaque to commemorate the development project and formally named The Little Field Theatre and The Duke of Kent Building.

Mr Adrian Perks, Headmaster of St. Andrew’s, commented: “I hope that I may speak for all when I express both our gratitude and pride that our fantastic project has been recognised by such an occasion today. We would like to thank His Royal Highness for giving his time to help us to mark this splendid event.”
