St Swithun's School is proud to announce that Maia (Year 11) has successfully secured a spot in the prestigious National Youth Choir (training division) following a successful audition this year. Maia's continued dedication and musical prowess have been recognised, especially after being a part of the National Youth Choir (Girls) for the past two years.

Maia's commitment to musical excellence extends within the school, where she actively contributes to the vibrant musical community. At St Swithun's, Maia lends her voice to the Swithun Choir and Chamber Choir, showcasing her vocal talents. Furthermore, she plays the violin in both the Symphony Orchestra and String Orchestra, while also exhibiting her musical versatility as a keyboardist in one of the school's rock bands. Complementing her practical experience, Maia is currently studying Music at GCSE level.

Director of Music, YiRu Hall expressed her delight, stating: "We are immensely proud of Maia's remarkable achievement in securing a place in the National Youth Choir. Her consistent dedication to music, both within and outside the school, exemplifies our commitment to fostering musical excellence and nurturing young talents at St Swithun's. Maia's success is a testament to her hard work, passion, and musical talent."

Maia’s love for music is clear: “My experience is that music is a gift that really brings people together. Singing or playing with other people creates the most incredible sounds, feelings, connections and memories. Just focusing on the music, conductor, and the people around you allows you to completely immerse yourself in harmonies which are amazing for the soul.”

This follows on from previous news of fellow student Natalie also becoming a part of the National Youth Choir, underscoring the school's commitment to nurturing exceptional musical talents.
